201 transgenders held by SCR squads for harassing passengers

Acting on frequent complaints from passengers about the nuisance and discomfort caused by transgenders, special squads of RPF carried out the drives in February last and for the first time arrested 201 transgenders and prosecuted them under the Railways Act, according to a release.

As a measure for rooting out this menance, Special squads under an Inspector (RPF) have been formed in divisions of SCR like Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Guntur, Guntakal, Vijayawada and Nanded, to carry out checks in all trains, a SCR official said adding the drive will continue against the transgenders.

"The arrested transgenders were also penalised," the official said.
