Japan tsunami waves reach New Zealand

According to the New Zealand Herald, civil defence officials said the Chatham Islands recorded sea level changes in excess of one metre, while parts of the North Island experienced 70 cm surges.

There were no reports of casualties or damage.

Auckland Civil Defence Controller Clive Manley said fluctuations were continuing longer than anticipated and asked people to stay away from beaches.
