Thammaiah elected C'magalur CMC chief

He defeated his rival Congress candidate Akmal with a margin of nine votes. Thammaiah secured 21 votes while Akmal managed to get only 12 votes.

Among the 35 members, Hemavathi, Theresa Lobo, Jameeda Banu and Noor Jahan remained absent. MP D V Sadananda Gowda and MLA C T Ravi took part in the polling.
H D Thammaiah from Hiremagalur, was the member and vice president of the CMC earlier. His supporters and friends celebrated his victory by bursting crackers in the city. They even took out a procession taking him on their shoulders.

Addressing the House after his election, Thammaiah said he would bring honour to the seat of the CMC President and work for the welfare of general public.

MLA C T Ravi advised him to give equal importance to the development of all wards of the Council and to check corruption. “Apart from the CMC and SFC grant, Rs 30 crore for development, Rs 54 crore for underground drainage and Rs 28 lakh under KMRP scheme have been released,” he informed.
