Following the death of Rashmi, the department is now left with only three dogs, one for the detection of crime and other two for detectioin of explosives (sniffer dogs). She was a member of the crime dog squad and had helped busting many criminal cases in the city. The German Shepherd Rashmi was trained in Bangalore and was inducted into the city police dog squad team in 2005. She was groomed under trainer and care taker of dog squad Purushotham.

Talking to Deccan Herald, DCP (City Armed Reserve) Prabhushankar said the dog was diagnosed with bone cancer and treated for the problem, but the treatment didn’t yield much results.

He informed that his office has sent a requisition to the department asking for the induction of more dogs into the squad. The proposal may take some more time. After the concurrence of the department, the selected dog undergoes training before induction, he added.
