Speaking at a nine-day workshop for zilla panchayat Presidents here on Tuesday, Shettar said gram panchayats often complained that electricity charges were imposed on them during transportation of water to their villages.
He said the plan was based on a model implemented by the Government of Gujarat, where the cost of water transport up to villages was borne by the State government.
However, electricity charges for internal supply of water has to be paid by the gram panchayats, he added.
