Ponting to retire post-World Cup: report

Last Updated 23 March 2011, 05:24 IST

According to the 'Daily Mail', "Ponting plans to retire from international cricket at the end of Australia's World Cup campaign and wants to end his career captaining an English county."

"Sportsmail has learnt that the Australia captain, aiming to lead his side to a fourth World Cup triumph, is fed up trying to prove he should carry on into his 38th year," it reported.

The report says should Australia lose to India tomorrow in the quarterfinals, there is a possibility of Ponting putting in his papers.

With over 13,000 runs in one-days, Ponting has won three World Cups, two as captain, for Australia. Ponting could play in England's county circuit post-retirement, the report said.
