The company, which has set a target of being the world's first fully sustainable company by 2020, has installed a 'bespoke ultrasonic cutting machine' based on NASA technology which will double the output and enable the company to eliminate waste, a company release said.
The machine uses ultra sonic cutting to reduce window waste-the excess trimming from cutting tiles out of rolls of carpet. The company expects the machine to deliver a reduction of 80 percent which will enable it to eliminate 310 tonnes of waste material each year from production of its carpet tile. The machine has also been designed to release less dust.
Another initiative, the Cool Green system allows it to recycle manufacturing and carpet waste back into in its products for the first time, heralding a green element to the manufacturing process,it said.
