Congress dismisses reference to Sonia as Christian

"This is an irrelevant question. She (Sonia) is a proud Indian and a proud president of a political party, which has a long history of Indian heritage," party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.

He was responding to questions about the Indian envoy's reference to Gandhi as "a Christian as the leader of the largest national political party" of the country made in US.
A newspaper has reported that Shankar had delivered a speech at a US university on February 24 referring to Sonia Gandhi as being a Christian as a testament to Indian pluralism and diversity.
