They further alleged that the government was biased in allocating money to different districts. No money was sanctioned to Wakf institutions in seven districts in the State - including Mysore and Udupi - last year, while other districts were sanctioned a disproportionately high amount, they charged.

Rs 2.35 cr sanctioned

Khan, in his reply to former Wakf minister and Congress MLC A M Hintusgeri, stated that a total of Rs 2.35 crore was sanctioned in 2008-09, of which only Rs 1.23 crore was released by the Wakf board.

He added that the rest of the money was still with the board, and would be released as and when institutions sent their applications.

This answer earned the ire of the Opposition on the floor, with senior MLC Mir Aziz Ahmed in particular vehemently enquiring if the allocation will lapse, and how long the government will take to spend last year’s allocation.
