Nachiketa Hostel warden suspended

In the wake of complaints, Shantappa conducted a surprise visit of the hostel on Tuesday. During the inspection, he interacted with the hostelers who said that from the past four days only ragi balls had been served and no rice was provided.

Though there is an LPG connection, food is still cooked in the earthen oven. “Even some of the basic facilities are not provided to us,” they told Shantappa.

Two cooks were also found to be on unauthorised leave. Shantappa took to task one of the hostel staff Nanjundappa for poor maintenance of toilets and resulting foul smell.
He also found that water connection had not been provided to the purifier.

Shantappa later called District Social Welfare Officer Nataraj to the hostel and questioned him about the lack of facilities. He directed Nataraj to suspend the Warden Balachandra Ambiger and to issue a notice to taluk Social Welfare Officer.

Following the directions, Balachandra was suspended, Nataraj said.
