Karnataka's headcount is 6.11 crore

According to provisional data culled from the Census 2011 report, Karnataka has 31,057,742 males and 30,072962 females. The population of children below six years is 68,55,801.

The State has shown improvement in its gender ratio which stands at 968 from 964 in 2001. However, the child sex ratio is 943 female child per 1,000 male child. The State has registered a percentage decadal growth 15.67 as against the national average of 17. 64.

The literacy rate has improved to 75.60 per cent from 66.6 per cent in 2001 and is well above than the national average of 74.04 per cent registered in the current census. Karnataka’s population density has gone up to 319 persons per sq km. It was 275 in 2001.
