While there are many websites to provide succour to blood donors, this online directory stands apart as it gives a list of people willing to donate blood, their blood group and phone numbers along with location as well.

Pursuing their eighth semester, computer science and engineering at Maharaja’s Institute of Technology, Srirangapatna Taluk, the lads have collected blood group details of about 120 people - mostly their classmates and faculty members.

Supporting them are about 60 friends, who have already campaigned in various colleges such as JSS Law College, St Philomena’s College and Vidhyavardhaka College of Engineering in the city to encourage students to register with the blood directory.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Rakesh said that the directory mainly aims at gathering information from the student crowd.

Registration details

Each student who enrolls will be given an email-id and password allowing them to update their phone numbers on the website, if they change their numbers.

However, the website doesn’t provide students an option to register on the website. Rakesh said that by providing a registration option, the verification of all users would be difficult.

Instead, student co-ordinators in various colleges will be given login credentials. The onus would be on student co-ordinators to ensure that the directory isn’t filled with fake details.

While the website was officially launched just a month ago, Rakesh said that nearly 40 people have called the donors listed on the website.

Rakesh said that the next step is to approach all engineering colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).

With more than 25,000 students in these colleges, Rakesh said that it would serve as a boon to people in various cities.
