The Gangajji you didn’t know

During interaction with a Deccan Herald correspondent, Gangubai Hangal had fondly narrated these incidents:

On her visit to Pakistan: I was drying my hair in the balcony of my room. A hotel staff came running to tell me that it was forbidden in the country. I did not know customs and practices of that country and I returned to my room in fear.

As an MLC: I enjoyed the heated arguments among members on many issues. As I did not know the A, B, C and D of politics, I would just keep quiet and enjoy each and every moment.

Her prized possession: A music book belonging to her mother and an incomplete composition on Mylara Linga.

Love for food: “I am not used to eating north Indian dishes. So I always carried chutney pudi with me, and eat it with rice or chapati,” she would say.
