BMTC feeder service to Metro

Shankarlinge Gowda, principal secretary, transport department said the Reach 1 of the Metro alone will have 50-60 buses with at least 15 buses at each station. The smaller buses (feeder buses) of 30 seats will add 10 per cent to the total number of buses available with BMTC, he added.

Bus Day success

The introduction of Bus Day since February 2010, has not only increased the BMTC revenue by 25 percent, but also added eight lakh passengers. According to BMTC Managing Director, Syed Zameer Pasha, there were 40 lakh passengers before introducing the concept of Bus Day. Now an additional eight lakh passengers travel by BMTC buses increasing the total number to 48 lakh passengers.

“There are 12 corridors where an additional 100 buses were introduced in each cluster. In fact, many IT professionals have formed associations and are advising us to increase the number of route buses,” he said. Gowda said the total revenue of BMTC had risen to Rs 1,250 crore from around 1,000 crore per year after the introduction of Bus Day.

Star attraction

In order to encourage Bus Day, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will be travelling in BMTC bus from his residence to UB City on April 8. Veteran cricketers like Sudhakar Rao, G R Vishwanath, Syed Kirmani, Sunil Joshi and Sadanand Vishwanath and actors Sudeep, Shivarajkumar, Duniya Vijay, and others will also travel in BMTC buses on that day.
