In a memorandum submitted to Chief Electoral Office C S Suranjana, KPCC President G Parameshwara stated that the BJP government has been misusing official machinery, distributing money and gifts to the electorate and releasing funds to temples in violation of model code of conduct. About Rs 103 crore has been sanctioned to 172 temples in Jagalur constituency, he alleged.

The KPCC President urged the CEO to direct the Deputy Commissioner of Davangere to stop the release of funds to temples.

Parameshwara also alleged that BJP has been transporting money and sarees in Government vehicles to distribute among voters. He wanted the OCEO to deploy additional observers in all three constituencies to ensure free and fair polling.

Parameshwara also brought to the CEO’s notice the alleged distribution of letters among voters signed by BJP Candidate C P Yogeshwar that government has sanctioned construction of 6,000 houses in Channapatna constituency.

He warned that his party will stage a protest in front of the OCEO if it fails to take action against the BJP by Friday.

Public campaign for the byelections ended at 5 pm on Thursday.  However, the candidates can conduct door-to-door campaign on Friday. Polling is scheduled on April 9.
