Up your cool quotient

Curd and buttermilk make the most natural, delicious and nourishing drinks during summer months. Here are a few ways to make cool and yummy summer drinks.

Ginger Sip

Ingredients: Ginger gratings – 2 tbsp; Sugar and asafoetida – a pinch each; Green chilli – ½; Coconut gratings – 1 tbsp; Salt – to taste; Buttermilk – 4 glasses; Curry leaves and Coriander leaves – a few (chopped).

Method: Grind to a smooth paste ginger gratings, coconut gratings, chilli, and stir in buttermilk, along with salt, sugar and asafoetida.Garnish with chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves and serve chilled. Serves four.

Jeera Joy

Ingredients: Toasted jeera/cumin – 1 tsp; Coconut gratings – 1 tbsp; Green chilli – ½ (optional); Salt and sugar – to taste; Buttermilk – 4 glasses.

Method: Grind all ingredients together and stir in buttermilk. Serve chilled or with crushed ice cubes. Serves four.

Nelli Chill

Ingredients: Gooseberry gratings – 4 tsp; Green chilli – ½; Coconut gratings – 1 tbsp;      Cucumber gratings – 1 cup; Salt and sugar – to taste; Asafoetida – a pinch; Curry leaves and Coriander leaves – a few (chopped).

Method: Grind all ingredients to a smooth paste and stir in buttermilk. Garnish with chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves and serve chilled. Serves four.

Cashew-Sesame Sip

Ingredients: Cashew nuts – 8; Toasted sesame seeds – 1 tbsp; Salt and Sugar – to taste; Buttermilk – 4 glasses.

Method: Grind all ingredients and stir in buttermilk. Serve chilled or with crushed ice.

Pudina Punch

Ingredients: Pudina/ Mint leaves – ½ cup; Green chilli – ½; Jeera – ½ tsp; Coconut gratings – 1 tbsp; Coriander leaves – ¼ cup; Asafoetida – a pinch; Salt and Sugar – to taste; Buttermilk – 4 glasses.

Method: Grind all ingredients to a smooth paste and stir in buttermilk. Serve chilled. Serves four.

Creamy Carrot Sip

Ingredients: Carrot gratings –  4 tbsp; Coconut gratings – 1 tbsp; Cashew nuts – 4; Salt and Sugar –  to taste; Buttermilk – 4 glasses; Coriander leaves (chopped) – a few.

Method: Grind all ingredients to a smooth paste and mix well with buttermilk and chill. Serve garnished with coriander leaves. Serves four.
