Jayalalitha upbeat over voters' response

Last Updated 08 April 2011, 17:56 IST

Predicting a landslide victory for the AIADMK at the hustings, ‘Amma’ remarked that  “there is a great cyclonic storm of anger targeted against the Karunanidhi’s (DMK president and chief minister) family.”

Jayalalitha made the remarks to reporters in the midst of hectic campaigning in the western districts of Tiruppur and Erode on Thursday. With just four more days left for the campaign to close, the pace is furious and sparks fly from both sides.

Jayalalitha said the main issue in this election “is the all-pervasive corruption indulged in by Karunanidhi, his family members, party members and ministers.”  Besides this was the “domination” of Karunanidhi’s family in all affairs of the state, she alleged.

According to her, “a complete breakdown of law and order, the unprecedented power crisis and the total non-performance and misrule (of the DMK regime),” were among the other issues before the electorate this time. Taking exception to being branded  “corrupt,” she said “all cases were foisted on me. I am not corrupt. It is wrong for anyone to compare me with DMK leaders.”

Complaint against Stalin

Meanwhile, stung by Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin’s reported remark about the marital status of Jayalalitha, her party on Friday filed a complaint against him with the Election Commission demanding immediate action.

Stalin’s remark was “malicious and was beyond all limits of decency,” the complaint, filed a day after the EC issued a notice to Jayalalitha for allegedly personal remarks against Karunanidhi, said. AIADMK Rajya Sabha member P H Manoj Pandian had written to the Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer against Stalin.
