Take the case of Miller’s Road, where heavy traffic damaged the pipelines and water leaked on to the road.

Although the leak was plugged, the BWSSB has erected a barricade on the middle of the road to prevent vehicles from plying over the pipeline.

A BWSSB official said the pipeline was at least 40 years old and needed immediate replacement.

The Board plans to take up the work and replace old pipes with MS pipes through the entire 700-metre stretch from Miller’s Road to Ali Askar Road.

Permission sought

“We are waiting for permission from the Traffic Department to start digging the road,” he said.

Apart from the Miller’s Road, the Old Richmond Road developed a huge pit a few weeks ago after a manhole on  the road collapsed due to loosening of soil.

“We have fixed the road temporarily, but the entire stretch needs to be dug again to lay new pipelines,” an official said.

The BWSSB has called for tenders to replace the existing pipelines with 450 mm diametres. Once the work begins, the stretch will be totally blocked for traffic.

Recently, the BWSSB had taken up re-laying work of pipelines on the Nimhans Road stretch and completed it in a month. The traffic was  diverted till the work was completed.
