Kannada-Konkani cultural meet begins

Spreading the culture of languages through programmes ensure cordial atmosphere in society, opined chief executive officer of Zilla Panchayat, K Sundarnaik.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Konkani Kannada Sahitya Samskruthi Sambrama’ organised jointly by the district administration, Department of Kannada and Culture and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy here. The CEO said the cultural programmes in both Konkani and Kannada languages would improve bond among the people. Such functions should be held regularly. Personality improves with culture and presentation of cultural programmes.

Registrar of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, S H Shivarudrappa said the academy had already conducted 800 programmes and published 59 titles. It was encouraging litterateurs and artistes, he added.

Anthony D’Silva, a Catholic leader said Konkani is the mother tongue of the Hindus, Muslims and the Christians. It is seen especially in coastal areas. This language did not have script because of Kannada language is being used in Konkani.

Earler, a procession of cultural troupes was taken out from Sri Chamarajeshwari Temple up to J H Patel Auditorium where the function was held. An exhibition of cartoons was also held.
