Kargil martyrs remembered

Home minister V S Acharya, Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister Suresh Kumar and RDPR minister Shobha Karandlaje paid homage to the soldiers in a function organised in Vidhana Soudha to mark the 10th anniversary of Kargil Vijay celebrations.

They welcomed Kargil Vijay Shraddhanjali Kalash, which reached Bangalore on the day. Citizens’ Society of India has been organising Kargil Vijay Shraddhanjali Kalash yatre since 1999 to mark the victory of Indian soldiers in the Kargil war. The yatre began on Tuesday in Kanyakumari and will reach India Gate in Delhi on July 26 after covering a few places in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The society in its message on the 10th anniversary of the victory said, “Soldiers fight against odds. The get wounded and some make the supreme sacrifice to keep the Indian border intact.  We extend our sympathy and salute all our martyrs.”

Former Lokayukta Justice Venkatachala, parents of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, S C Bhandari, president of Citizens’ Society of India, Lt Col G V Sreedhar (retd) and Air Comm Chandrashekhar (retd) paid homage to the soldiers.
