The contest conducted in 18 categories saw the participation of 354 dogs from Mysore, Nanjangud, Hassan, Bangalore, Mandya and also Kodagu districts.

Waving their tails and following their masters, stretching the body to beat the sun on the grass, being fed with water in a bowl placed on a mat to keep the canine cool, decorated with colourful tapes, girl cuddling her pet- these were among the several colourful scenes witnessed at P Kalingarao Mantapa, the venue of the competition.

Breeds

Breeds like Afghan Hound (` 1.15 lakh), Siberian Husky (sold in the range of ` 60,000 to ` 70,000), Vinature Tincher (` 75,000), German Shepherd, Napolean Mastif, Bull Mastif, English Mastif, Rottweiler, Dobberman, Labrador, Golden Retriever, Mudhol, St Bernard, Pomeranian, Dashound among many others participated in the show.

For the benefit of cubs in the arena, who have recently included pets in their family, books giving a glimpse of animal behaviour was available, besides pedigree and packed food at the stalls.

For a couple of hours, the environs had been converted into ‘Animal World’ making it a perfect Sunday entertainment.

MCC chief too

Though the entry fee for  outsiders (other than participants with their  pets) was fixed at Rs 10,  it didn’t deter people from flocking the venue.  Prominent among them was MCC Commissioner K S Raykar, also a chief guest of the show. He also summoned his pets- a Pug and Great Dane for the competition. Children along with their elders were seen sitting throughout the contest.
