Nandaram, a resident of Parua village, wanted to sell his son Ankit to a rich man for Rs 15,000 a few days ago. Angered by his wife’s attempts to foil the plan, Nandaram thrashed her and chopped off her nose. Police said the victim has been admitted to hospital.
“We are very poor and don’t have enough to eat two square meals. Yet I cannot sell my child even if someone offers me a fortune,” Prem Kumari told her husband, not wanting her child to be kept as a bonded labour.
Cops intervene
An attempt by the buyer to take away the reluctant Ankit in a car was stopped by local people, who got wind of the matter and came in time to rescue the boy. Police intervention ensured that the boy remained with his original family.
In an effort to save her and the two children from Nandram’s wrath, Prem Kumari moved over to her parent’s place and vowed not to return to her husband.
However, after being persuaded by Nandram she returned home on Friday with her children. Police said the couple fought on Saturday when Nandram allegedly cut off Prem Kumari’s nose with a knife.
A case has been registered against Nandram, who has been absconding after the incident, police said.
