Organised by ‘Srirama Mandiram Trust’ of N R Colony, the premises was packed to the hilt. Talking before the concert began, Chaitra said, “I have performed here as a child. It gives me an immense pleasure to sing devotional songs, in the same place,”.

Trained under Nagaraj Hawaldar and Nandakumar Kurudi, Chaitra selected a bhajan in Raag Hamsadhwani set in teen taal. She was appreciated by the audience when she presented Pavanapootha Hanuman. Next, she sung a kruti composed by Purandaradasa. Her beautiful voice and excellent presentation of Rama Enniro Raghurama Enniro, created a devotional ambience and even inspired a few members of the audience to sing along.

Next, was another composition by Purandaradasa, Krishna Enabarade where she succeeded in entertaining the gathering with her melodious voice. She soon moved to vachanas which were steeped in devotional and philosophical elements. She chose Chakorange Chandramana Belagina Chinte, composed by Akkamahadevi. Her talent was reflected in this beautiful piece.

She sung a vachana, Ullavaru Shivalayava Maduvaru composed by Basavanna where the composer compared human body to a temple and described how he worships God in his heart. Chaitra did justice to the composition with her pleasant voice. This was followed by Bayalu Bayalane Bitti which she presented with ease. She was accompanied by Gopinath on tabla and Ramakrishna on harmonium. Over all, the concert was a treat.

“Though I am not an ardent devotee, I have been a regular after the cultural events of Ramotsava celebrations began. I witnessed speeches of great orators, Harikathas, vocal concerts, musical ensembles and dance dramas. Each one was enlightening,” said Ullas Nagarkatti, who was there at the concert.

K N Venkatanarayana, the president of the trust said that the main aim of the trust is to provide platform to the up-and-coming artistes.

“We conduct Ramotsav for two weeks every year, as part of which we organise cultural events by popular artistes. We encourage the young artistes by giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents. Many renowned artistes like late M S Subbulakshmi and Balamuralikrishna have performed here,” he said.
