Call it lack of communication from the authorities or lack of willingness from the farmers, only 51 applications have been received at 17 Raitha Samparka Kendras in the district, hinting that the authorities have to take some measures to reach out to the farmers effectively.

Though the last date for receiving applications from interested farmers is April 25, Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, on Tuesday addressing a meeting on ‘Suvarna Bhoomi’ expressed his optimism that the applications will flow in over the next six days.

With this, the officials of various departments such as the horticulture, agriculture, sericulture, biofuel, fisheries have been given the task of identifying 27,841 beneficiaries in the district for the Suvarna Bhoomi scheme within six days.

Though the last date for submission of application is fast approaching, neither has the taluk level meeting of the officials been convened nor is the software required for uploading the list of beneficiaries arrived.

Agriculture department has prepared an action plan to identify 16,704 beneficiaries, horticulture department has a target of 6,960 and the fisheries department will have to find 1,392 beneficiaries in the district.

“Nodal officers should take up the responsibility of implementing the scheme effectively. The entire success of the scheme rests on the shoulders of the nodal officers. Taluk-level meetings should be convened and action plan should be prepared to identify beneficiaries,” the DC said adding that the scheme has scope for only 27,841 beneficiaries.

Hence, if there are more beneficiaries, they can go for a lottery draw after scurtinising best, eligible beneficiaries. Notice regarding lottery draw will be sent on April 28 and the process will be held before May 9, Yadav said and further opined that since the number of beneficiaries is restricted, the proceedure of selection of beneficiaries and implementation of the scheme must be transparent.

The DC said that applications forms are available at all the Gram Panchayat offices, Raitha Samparka Kendras in the district and all departments concerned. However, filled applications should be submitted at the Raitha Samparka Kendras only.
