When many customers opt to chew these seeds, they are a delight among children as they love it for their sweet taste.

Sweet fennel or fennel grows in plants which grow up to 1 metre in height with a bright green stout stem and many branches. Leaves are small and the flowers are yellow in this plant.

The fruits along with its ribs have a pleasant scent. The consumption of the seeds helps in indigestion problems, griping from stomach and bowels, used for intestinal problems, relieves acute abdominal pain and helps to promote the flow of urine and strengthens and gives tone to the stomach.

Fennel seeds are known as ‘Badisoppu,’ ‘Badesoppu’ and ‘Dodda Jeerige’ in Kannada and
locally known as Soampu or Sompu.

In Sanskrit, it is called as Madhurika, Madhuri, Mishreya and in Malayalam Ulua, Perum Jeerakam. This plant scientifically known as ‘Foeniculum Vulgare’ belongs to Apiaceae family.
