“It will be difficult to maintain same level of relation after the arrest,” a top Congress leader associated with Tamil Nadu politics told Deccan Herald, here on Friday.

However, the party has officially been maintaining that the arrest of Kanimozhi, a Rajya Sabha MP will not affect the Congress-DMK alliance.

“We feel our ties with DMK have continued for years seeing good and bad times. I do not think the on-going investigations in the 2G issue will have any adverse impact on Congress-DMK ties," party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters here.
Speaking about the prospects of alliance coming back to power in Tamil Nadu, the leader, who is closely associated with the recently concluded election process in the state said: “It is a neck-to-neck fight.”

Earlier in the day, Kanimozhi appeared before a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in connection with 2G spectrum allocation irregularities.

At the time, when Kanimozhi appeared before special CBI court, several DMK MPs were present in the court at Patiala House complex. Sharad Kumar, managing director of Kalaignar TV also appeared in court.

Kanimozhi and Kumar are among those named in the second charge sheet by the CBI. The special CBI court has deferred its decision till Saturday on the bail plea by Kanimozhi.
