College owner held for murder

Addressing a news conference on Monday, Inspector General of Police Alok Mohan said that Renukaprasad, son of K Venkatramana Gowda hatched the plan and executed the same with the help of Manoj, Nagesh and Vaman, employees of KVG Group, along with Sharan and Shankar, rowdy-sheeters from Mangalore. Police arrested Renukaprasad, Sharan, Shankar, Manoj and Nagesh while Vaman is absconding.

Shankar was involved in another murder case. Sharan, who has six cases against him, was convicted in a murder case and had just completed a jail term. He was involved in a rape case too.

Police said the KVG Group was divided between Dr Chidanand and Renukaprasad, the two sons of K Venkatramana Gowda recently.

According to the arrangement, Dr Chidanand had got five out of 16 institutions of the group, while Renukaprasad got 11.

Renukaprasad felt that the five institutions his brother got fetched more revenue than the 11 he got.

Renukaprasad had a grudge against Ramakrishna, who he was convinced was responsible for the perceived injustice meted out to him in the division of the institutional assets. He even reportedly tried to oust Ramakrishna from his position, but failed.
Renukaprasad then decided to get Ramakrishna killed.

With the help of KVG group staffers Manoj, Nagesh and Vaman, Renukaprasad hired rowdy sheeters Sharan and Shankar to kill Ramakrishna.

On the evening of April 28, 2011, Shankar and Sharan stabbed Ramakrishna to death.

Police formed five investigating teams, including the district crime investigation bureau officials. A total of Rs 15 lakh, four mobile phones and the weapons used for the crime were seized from the accused. The five were produced before the court on Monday evening.

The IGP lauding the investigation teams said that they have successfully cracked the case in a week.
