BMRCL awaits approval for oscillation tests

Last Updated 09 May 2011, 19:25 IST

According to BMRCL spokesperson B L Y Chavan, the oscillation trial will begin soon after the CRS gives its approval. He said the Corporation has not set any new deadline for the commercial operation of the Reach-I (Byappanahalli-MG Road). The Corporation’s trials and certification process had come to a standstill a couple of months ago with the Railways Board and other certifying agencies raising concerns over the safety.

Chavan said tunnel boring machines have been lowered and assembled near the Chinnaswamy stadium for the underground work and the task will be carried out at the Majestic end also. The first set of tunnel boring machines arrived in the City last month.

A source in the Corporation said that tunnel boring would be a tough task to accomplish.

“The terrain here is very rocky with hard granites in some parts. This was precisely why most stretches of the Metro were elevated in the City. The machines can, on an average, dig around 10 metes per day,” the source said.

Chavan added that the construction of steel deck on one side is complete at Minsk Square and that on the other side will be completed soon. The construction underground will continue later, he said.
