The forum urged the State government to enact a law against donation.

The increase in capitation fee for admissions to all schools and colleges posed a serious challenge for the poor and middle class families, who dream of providing education to their wards in English medium. Of late, education became a costly affair for the common man, they alleged.

The protesters staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum urging the district administration to go tough on the institutions that demand donation.

“The private educational institutions are demanding hefty donation for admissions to schools and colleges. With the admission season beginning for the SSLC and the PUC classes , the administration should crack a whip to check the donation menace,” the protesters said.

The activists also wanted the government to initiate criminal proceeding against the tainted former vice-chancellors of University of Mysore J Shashidhar Prasad, Sayyed Akthar of Women’s University and Dr Prabhakaran of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences who were facing charges of irregularities while in power. But, so far, no action has been initiated against them.

They urged the government bring the accused to justice.

District co-ordinator of the forum Vasanth Kumar, city secretary Rakesh and others were present.
