Bharat Nirman Andolan from August 1

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, Director of Information Department Nagendraswamy said that the objective of the programme is to educate people on the schemes introduced by the Union government for the uplift of backward districts.

Rural infrastructure

Union government has introduced Bharat Nirman programme to provide road, drinking water, electricity and telecommunication facilities in rural areas. A sum of Rs 1,74,000 crore is being spent annualy for the purpose. Only four-five districts are being selected for implementation of the project.

Exhibition and seminars will be held as part of the andolan. There will be film shows and cultural programmes in the evening. Workshops on National Rural Health Mission, Pradhanmantri Grameen Sadak Yojana, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid-day meal scheme, employment generation and National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme will be held from the second day of the andolan.

Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily will inaugurate the exhibition on August 1. District in-charge minister Dr Mumtaz Ali Khan and others will take part in the inaugural.
Benefits of various schemes will be extended to selected beneficiaries, on Aug 5, the concluding day of the andolan. Union Minister of State for  Railways, K H Muniyappa is scheduled to take part in the valedictory day function.

Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha, Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer N Krishnappa, deputy secretary Zulfikarulla, City Planning Director Prabhudev, Information officer C M Rangareddy were present in the press meet.
