‘Ananya Award’

The Ananya Award function and Sangati, the youth music festival valedictory function, will be held at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross Road, Malleswaram on May 22, 10 am. Nadanjali – Vande Vasudevam, a musical tribute to Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mysore Vasudevacharya marking his 50th death anniversary, will be held on the occasion.  There will be a rendition of select compositions of Acharya by S Shankar’s Shankarabharanam group. There will be an invocation by the disciples of Kalavathi Avadhooth.

On the occasion, Ananya Puraskara will be awarded to M T Selvanarayana, Shastra Kausthubha to R N Srilatha and Ananya Yuva Puraskara to Roopa and Deepa.

Evergreen numbers

A musical programme called Yaadein-5’— Shammi Kapoor Nite will be held on May 21, 6.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, opposite Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road. The show will have singers Biju Nair, Sinchan Dixit, Sanjay Singh and Aishwarya Kashinathan who will sing melodious numbers like Akele Akele, Kis Kissko Pyar Karun, Laal Chadi, Ehsaan Tera Hoga, Tum Mujhe Yoon Bhula etc. For details, call 9845159879.

Interesting plays

Ekjute Theatre Group from Mumbai is organising Ekjute 30 Years Caravan to commemorate its 30th anniversary. Their plays will be staged at Ranga Shankara till May 22. All of them have been directed by Nadira Zaheer Babbar. On May 21, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm, Dayashankar Ki Diary will be staged. Evening of artistry

Kalasindhu Academy and Nrityanjali are presenting an evening of artistry by Yamini Krishnamurthy in the City on May 22, 6 pm. The venue is Shivaratreeshwara Centre (JSS), 8th Block, Jayanagar.

Creative strokes

An exhibition called ‘Six Tones’ will be on at Chitrakala Parishat from May 21 to 27, 10.30 am to 7.30 pm.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on May 21 at 11 am.  The participating artists are Jeetendra Kothalikar, Vinod Raghuveer, Mahesh Reddy, Rajkumar Kale, Artis Kulkarni and Sangamesh Chillshetty.

Live performance

A live performance by DJ Steve Jhonson will be held at Hard Rock Café, St Mark’s Road on May 22, 8.30 pm. Steve Johnson, professionally known as DJ Freestyle Steve, has risen from the local clubs of South Florida to touring the world with pop sensation Justin Timberlake.

Funk show

The annual performing arts show, ‘Summer Funk’, conducted by the Shiamak Davar’s Institute for the Performing Arts (SDIPA) is back with the stage performance by his students of Bangalore. The performances include various styles like hip hop, rock ‘n’ roll, jazz funk, Bollywood jazz, and Shiamak’s Indo-jazz.

The highlight of the show is a performance by Shiamak’s ‘Victory Arts Foundation’, a not-for-profit organisation that uses dance as therapy and spreads the joy of dance to the lesser privileged, people with special needs and HIV/ AIDS affected. The event will be held on May 22, 1 pm and 5.30 pm at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium.

Lecture demonstration

The Kala Premi Foundation is presenting a unique lecture demonstration on Navavidha Bhakthi by Madhuvanthi, with Nagaraj Mandya on violin and Raghu Bhagavat on mridangam, on May 22, 6.30 pm. The venue is Seva Sadan Auditorium, 14th Cross Road, Malleswaram. Madhuvanthi will give some insight into different aspects of Navavidha Bhakthi in Carnatic music, through the compositions of different composers. She hails from a family of musicians and was initiated into music at an early age by her mother and guru Rupa Sridhar. 

Exhibition of paintings

Renaissance Gallerie, Cunningham Road is holding an exhibition of the paintings of Jugal Kishore Vaishnav, Prashant Shelke, Prabal Mallick, and Vinitha D'Souza till May 25.
