Microsoft bets big on cloud

“The cloud would leverage internet as a programming surface,” said Ballmer, adding that about 300,000 jobs will be created in India as a result of cloud computing boom here.

Microsoft is looking at working with Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia to develop “next-generation” mobile devices.

“Our partnership with Nokia is an important step forward ... We will work together over time on next- generation hardware innovations with them,” Ballmer said. He added that India would be a “priority market” for the company.

OnWindows 7 operating system, Ballmer said that since the launch of Windows 7 about 500 million PCs have been shipped. He, however, chose not to comment on the launch of Windows 8 version. “The race is on to push Windows to new form factors,” he said.
