Constables Venkatesh Gulbarga and Ambaraya Chinchansur, who were patrolling the main street of the town were captured by the CCTV camera trying to break the ATM machine in order to burgle it at 3.25 am on Thursday. When they failed in their attempt, the two policemen, left the ATM booth, and fled.
In the morning, bank manager M K Pradhan found signs of attempt to tamper with the ATM, as well as the CCTV footage showing the two policemen, and informed the local police station. Circle Police Inspector Sharanabasaveshwara told Deccan Herald that the two constables would be handed over to judicial custody.
