Set up special courts for juvenile justice: HC

C P Maya, a resident of National Games Village, Koramangala, had filed a petition, seeking directions to invoke Section (25) of Child Protection Act 2005, to constitute special courts for speedy delivery of justice. 

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh asked the petitioner to come up with suggestions on setting up special courts.

The State government submitted that around 2,634 cases of child abuse were pending before the courts throughout the State, with an average of 100 in each district.

Nearly 960 such cases are pending before court in Bangalore Urban district alone. Going by the numbers, the Court said the special court was needed only in Bangalore Urban. The matter  has been adjourned.

Hearing adjourned

The High Court has adjourned the hearing on the application by advocate Sirajin Basha, seeking vacation of stay on the proceedings against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his family members.

The Supreme Court has dismissed a batch of petitions challenging the High Court order staying the criminal proceedings against Yeddyurappa and his family members for allotment of land allegedly in violation of rules.

Declining to interfere with the High Court’s order, the Bench of Justices V S Sirpurkar and T S Thakur had directed that the petitions filed by Basha and others be decided within six weeks.
