'Big Brother' contestant Sree Dasari slashes wrists

The 24-year-old student was rushed to the hospital in the early hours of Friday after the incident, where he was treated for “cuts and lacerations”. Sree was discharged and is currently under care of a psychologist arranged by producers of the show, reported the Times.

Though there is no clue as to what led Sree to hurt himself, reports suggest that he became upset after watching Noirin, the Irish contestant on the show to whom he had confessed love, kissing Siavash Sabbaghpour, a housemate on the reality show. There is no suggestion that incident was a suicide attempt, the newspaper said.

Sree was found in his room at the University of Hertfordshire with his wrists slashed, crying for help when paramedics arrived and rushed him to the hospital.

The Indian student had earlier appeared on the spin-off show Big Brother’s Big Mouth on Friday night.

A spokesman for the Channel 4 said that they had made a psychologist available to Dasari, who was voted off the show with an 85 per cent majority.

“Housemates welfare is of paramount importance. There is a well-established and extensive aftercare system in place for all house mates and Sree continues to be given ongoing support by the production team and regular access to the show psychologist,” said the spokesperson.

A spokesman for the University of Hertfordshire said Sree was receiving ongoing support.
“We are offering ongoing support to Sree as part of our usual student support procedure,” he said.

The engineering student, who was the fourth one to get the boot from the show, was booed by the gathered crowd as he exited the ‘Big Brother’ House. While on the show, Sree had broken down in front of the cameras after being branded a “compulsive liar” by the other housemates.

He was also at the centre of a race row, when fellow contestant, Marcus mocked him by imitating his Indian accent.
