65 craftsmen take part in Shilpakala

Pottery, jewellery, garments, handicrafts, traditional and trendy accessories can be found in plenty at ‘Shilpakala’ organised by Umeia Handicrafts Association at Hotel Moti Mahal in City.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Association Secretary M S Farooque said that the main aim of the expo is to provide a marketing platform to artisans from different parts of the country. The association is a registered non-profit NGO and is actively involved in craft documentation, product development, providing marketing support to craftspersons and upgradation of skills by using improved tools and technology.

Inaugurating the expo, MCC Mayor Praveen stressed on keeping handicraft culture alive by supporting such artisans.

The expo has trendy Jewellery collection which includes ‘meenakarai’ from Jaipur. “The jewellery price starts from Rs 50,” says Asha.

Gopal Singh explains about the kurtas made from vegetable colour and Dorilal from Agra has a wide collection of marble jewellery boxes which are engraved with precious stones.The expo also has Haryana chappals made from camel skin, wooden toys, jewellery from Bijapur, saris and palm art works from Orissa, jute handicrafts from West Bengal, garments from Punjab, crochet work from Andhra Pardesh and many more handicrafts at affordable prices.

The expo open from 10 am to 8 pm till June 12.
