Revolver, 10 bullets seized, 2 held

The arrested are Pradeep Mendon (39), a resident of Udupi and A S Ravi (27), a resident of Somwarpet in Kodagu district. Informing the same to media persons here on Tuesday, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said the police were keeping a watch on rowdy-sheeters not only in Dakshina Kannada, but also in Udupi and Chikmagalur districts, following the recent shoot out at Kadri Park in Mangalore. Acting on a tip off that the Mendon-Ravi duo were in possession of a revolver, the police arrested them and seized the weapon (.22 revolver) and 10 bullets.

Stating that there were 9 cases against Mendon including 2 murder, 4 attempt to murder and 2 Arms Act, beginning the year 1993, in Surathkal, Mangalore East, Urwa, Pandeshwar, Bantwal, Udupi town and Karkal, Singh said Mendon is said to be working as a real estate commission agent.

On the other hand, there are no cases registered against A S Ravi, a native of Somwarpet, who was running a CD shop in Mannagudda. However, he was said to be a friend of Pandu Pai, killed a few years ago.

Clarifying that there was no link between the arrested duo and Kadri shoot out, the City police commssioner said that the police are trying to establish more details about Mendon and Ravi, so as to find out the motive behind carrying the revolver. Mangalore East police have registered a case and further investigations are on.

Vehicle-lifters held

Ullal police have arrested two persons and recovered 5 two-wheelers stolen by them. The value of the recovered property is approximately Rs 1 lakh.

When police were on a routine vehicle inspection on June 6, they stopped a 2-wheeler bearing registration number KA-19-Q-8893. Upon enquiry, the rider, Abdul Mannan alias Munaf (20) of Ullal, revealed that it was a stolen vehicle.

Based on the information given by him, the police arrested his associate Ahmed Rameez, also a resident of Ullal. The police recovered four more 2-wheelers from the duo bearing registration numbers KL-14-G-1960, dismantled parts of motorcycle KA-19-EA-7009 and two other 2-wheelers without number plates.   While 3 two-wheelers were stolen in Ullal police station limits, two other vehicles were stolen from Kasargod district. Ullal police have registered a case.

Goonda Act soon

City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh also said that a proposal is being readied to implent Gooda Act soon. If any person is arrested under Goonda Act, then the person will not get bail for one year.

To a query on the probable number of persons to be booked under Goonda Act, Singh said that the list is being readied in each police station limits. Declining to give more details, Singh said details on the same will help Goondas go underground or flee the region.
