Audi begins A6 luxury sedan's production in India

"The production of A6 underlines our growing presence in the Indian market and reiterates our long-term commitment," said Michael Perschke, head, Audi India. According to Perschke, the commencement of the A6 production was is in line with the company's long term strategy for the Indian market, where it plans to launch the car's latest version this year.

"A6 has played a significant role in our performance in the Indian market and we are confident that it will set new benchmarks in India," he said. The German car maker will utilise 16 work cycles to produce the luxury sedan which the company says will generate 126 jobs.

The company further said that it plans to produce more than 2,000 units of the luxury sedan in the initial few years. While it aims to manufacture an overall volume of more than 4,600 units in 2011, including production of its other vehicle offerings like A4 and Q5, also produced at the same facility. The Aurangabad plant has till date produced around 5,000 cars since the commencement of local production in September 2007.

"By 2015, Audi India targets to roll out up to 6,000 units each year," said the company in a statement. Currently, the company offers a wide range of vehicles including the A4, A6, A7 Sportback, A8, Q5, Q7, and the RS 5 Coupé, as also super sports cars R8 and the R8 Spyder.
