Gold worth ` eight lakh stolen

The incident has occurred at the residence of H V Sunandamma, on seventh cross in the locality. She is a senior supervisor at BSNL, Jayalakshmipuram here. Sunandamma, had been to her sister Yashodamma’s house in Saraswathipuram on Tuesday, after locking the house. She returned on Wednesday morning, only to discover the incident. The gold valuables weighing nearly 235 grams kept in the almirah were found stolen.

K R Police have registered a case.

Cop shoots self

A cop attached to City Armed Reserve (CAR) Police Force, has committed suicide allegedly by shooting self, at Hinkal in the city on Thursday.

Thammaiah (50), is the deceased. A native of Kodagu district, he was residing alone at Hinkal for the past one month. Earlier, he was residing with his wife and daughter at T K Layout.

He moved to Hinkal, when his daughter got a job in Bangalore and his wife left to stay with her.

An ex-serviceman, Thammaiah had joined police force 19 years ago.

He had served in the army for 17 years. Recently, Thammaiah was deputed as gunman to advocate Vishnukumar.

As is the routine, he was carrying stengun (Carbon machine gun) for job.

He seems to have returned home with the gun with the only intention to take his own life, said a police. The bullet has pierced through the region below the right ear.

He was residing in a portion of the room, at his relative’s house that was vacant, in the locality. The incident came to light, when a youth named Chandra went near the house, assuming that it may be available for rent.

He peeped through the window only to find Thammaiah collapsed with blood stains. It was around 5.30 pm. According to neighbours, they heard a huge sound, but mistook it for a stone falling on the zinc sheet roof. 

Vijayanagar Police have registered a case.
