'Join hands to promote Tulu language'

Last Updated 15 June 2011, 16:46 IST

This unfavourable notion must be changed and the Tuluvas too must join their hands in promoting and preserving Tulu language, said Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Palthadi Ramakrishna Achar.

Speaking after releasing the book on Tulu Koota founder S R Hegde at Academy Chavadi on Wednesday, he said in few of the instances people have responded passively to the calls of Tulu Academy, claiming that Tulu related works are to be done by the Academy alone. But it should not happen, working for Tulu is the responsibility of all, he said.

He also informed that Tulu Academy has published 29 books so far on various personalities who have contributed for the development of Tulu language. However, he said that there is no good response from the scholars to write the books on personalities who have contributed for Tulu language.

Earlier informing the contribution of S R Hegde, the author of the book M Rathnakumar said S R Hegde was the founder of first Tulu Koota in Mangalore.  At a time when Mangaloreans were reluctant to promote Tulu, it was Hegde who brought a ray of hope for Tulu language by starting Tulu Koota in the year 1969.
