Pointing out that the bus pass fare had been raised to Rs 175, the protesters said that it would affect students in rural areas. They demanded immediate rollback of bus fare.

They said that the fare had been raised from Rs 1,000 to  Rs 1,200  per annum, during the previous year. However,  it was reversed when ABVP had protested the hike.
The transport minister had assured that bus fares wouldn’t be hiked for two years, the protesters added.

Also the extra Rs 200 collected from the students was returned to them.

But within one year, the bus fares have been raised to Rs 175, which will come up to Rs 1,075 for the year.

The students wanted the fares to be slashed immediately.

The students started the rally beginning from Hemavathi statue and reached the deputy commissioner’s office.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.

ABVP city secretary Navya K L, joint secretary Naresh, Mahipal, members Vinay, Pavan Kumar, Arpitha and others participated in the protest.
