KDA opposes Kageri's move

Last Updated 18 June 2011, 19:15 IST

Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has opposed Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri’s decision to open English medium sections from sixth standard onwards in government schools.

The decision to encourage English medium schools was contrary to the State government’s policy to make education in mother tongue compulsory, said KDA Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru here on Saturday.

He said introducing English as medium of instruction would lead to closure of Kannada medium schools.  The Education Department should seek opinion of the people, including academicians, experts, litterateurs, Kannada activists, before arriving at any decision on the issue.
