Three NID students suspended for ragging

Last Updated 19 June 2011, 11:30 IST

The incident took place three to four days after the new academic session began on June 13, an NID official said.

"Based on the complaints on e-mails from the parents of a few freshers about the alleged ragging by senior students, the institute suspended three second year students," NID Registrar Vijaya Deshmukh said.

"Out of the three suspended students, two are pursuing undergraduate courses, while one is a post-graduate student," she said.

In the complaint, the parents alleged that their wards were forced to enter the rooms of senior students at night and asked to get do certain activities, NID sources, under the condition of anonymity, said.

"The anti-ragging committee of the institute swung into action and with the help of photographs, it identified the students against whom the complaints were filed," Deshmukh said.

"The committee will now be conducting a detailed inquiry into the incident and is likely to submit its report within a week," she added.
