Cong flays State for opposing heritage site tag

Govt should discuss with officials, Unesco reps, greens, says MP

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said insstead of opposing the proposal, the State government should discuss on the pros and cons of the proposal. Even Forest Minister C H Vijayashankar has not understood the concept of world heritage site. There is a need to discuss in detail the pros and cons of the heritage site tag with the UNESCO representatives, forest department, environmentalists, elected representatives and NGOs.

It is not right to create confusion before getting complete details on it. With the world heritage site, the eco sensitive areas of the Western Ghats will be preserved, he opined.

Height of stupidity

He said Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and former CM H D Kumaraswamy’s decision to take truth test on June 27, before Lord Manjunatheshwara at Dharmathala, is height of stupidity.

“By deciding to hold truth test before the divine presence, both the leaders have acted childishly and are trying to mislead the people of the State.”

It is a shameful act in a democratic set up, he said and added that instead of taking trust test before the Lord, let Chief Minister and former Chief Minister go to the people to know the truth. The ‘truth test’ is violating the system of Constitution. According to the Constitution, we should build a nation on scientific basis. However, these leaders are moving away from secular system, he added.

He said Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade should not allow these two leaders to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

“The people of the State believe in Lord Manjunatha as a lord of the truth. By taking truth test, both Yeddyurappa and Kumaraswamy are trying to make the God impure,” they added. Former ZP President K P Chandrakala, ZP Member Saritha Poonaccha and others were present.
