CBI grills former home ministry official on graft charges

"Then Joint Secretary (Border Management) Sada Kant was questioned in Dehra Dun Friday about favouring a private construction company in a road construction project in Leh undertaken by the National Projects Construction Corporation," said a CBI official.

The CBI wrote to the home ministry, seeking permission to question Sada Kant which was later sanctioned. The officials is alleged to have abused his official position by favouring one of the contractors for the project.

The investigative agency had lodged an FIR in the case in October 2010. "The 1983- batch IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer's name came up during investigations and was included in the list of the accused in April 2011," said the official.

Sada Kant was sent back to Uttar Pradesh after it came to light that the CBI had named him in a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He is currently on leave, said the official.
