According to a survey carried out by CESC, 1,17,624 houses in five districts – Mysore, Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajnagar and Kodagu –  are deprived of electricity.

The government has formulated a Rs 94-crore project under the Rajiv Rural Electrification Scheme, to provide power supply to them.

The project includes tapping different sources of energy to suit the individual houses located in the remote border areas of Chamarajnagar, Kollegal, Gundlupet, Periyapatna, H D Kote and Kodagu. The survey showed that many houses are in forest areas and don’t have electricity connections.

CESC officials, lecturers and students of the Social Work Department, University of Mysore have gathered information about people living in the border areas of the five districts. CESC Managing Director Dr P Boregowda said the first phase of the survey had been completed.
