Saakshi Pandit and Kushal N H, studying in seventh standard in Orchids School, were among the 30 teams selected at the State level science talent exhibition held at Davangere from June 17 to 19, where 850 teams from various schools from across the State took part.
Saakshi Pandit and Kushal N H, under the guidance of their teachers Sumana and Chaitra, had demonstrated a model of vertical farming.

In the wake of speculation that the world population would exceed three billion by 2050, it is feared that there would be severe scarcity of food. So, vertical farming, devised by Dikson Dispommier in the USA in 1999, could be a possible solution.

In this method, crops could be grown in 20-30 storey skyscrapers using artificial light — powered by unconventional energy like solar and wind energy — and minimum water and nutrients.
