Nohwar will replace Air Marshal NAK Browne, who will be taking over as the next Chief of the Air Staff on the same day, IAF officials said here.

Nohwar is presently commanding the Shillong-based Eastern Command of the IAF, which is undergoing a big transformation as the IAF is busy upgrading its infrastructure and assets in the north-eastern sector.

Commissioned into fighter stream in 1972, the Air Marshal has served in several fighter squadrons at various bases of IAF.

An alumnus of the prestigious Defence Service Staff College, Wellington and Air War College of the US, Air Marshal Nohwar has flown several types of fighter and trainer aircraft and has 3400 hours of flying experience.

He had earlier commanded a MiG 27 squadron and the prestigious Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) and held other staff appointments at the Air Headquarters in Delhi.
