Road tariff collection excess by 0.25 per cent in Udupi



Speaking to the media here on Thursday, RTO Ramesh informed that the yearly target for the 2008-09 financial year was Rs 3,583 lakh and the revenue collected was 3,592.15 lakh resulting in 0.25 per cent excess collection. However, there was a short fall in the collection as against the target aimed for the months from April to June in the current fiscal year.

Target

The target was Rs 895.74 lakh and the collected amount is Rs 822.04 lakh, he said.
As many as 1,53,391 motor vehicles were registered in the year 2008-09 while this year the number is 1,57,068 untill June. About 3,756 motor vehicles were newly registered during the months of April, May and June in the current fiscal year in contrast to 3,157 vehicles registered during the same period last year.

2,095 cases booked

As many as 2,095 cases were booked in the last year and about 139 vehicles were seized. A sum of Rs 67.35 lakh CF and Rs 25.52 lakh tax was collected from the seized vehicles. As many as 740 overload cases were booked and about 27 driving licenses were disqualified during last year, he informed and added that about 186 cases were booked and 12 vehicles seized from April to June during the current fiscal year.

Ban on lorries

The ban order on lorries carrying heavy weight, especially manganese ores, plying on NH-17 in Udupi district was relaxed for some hours to clear the mess in the Otthinenne area. More than 500 lorries have been forcibly halted owing to the prohibitory orders issued by the district administration. But about 250 lorries were fortunate enough to carry on the drive as they started before the implementation of the ban orders.
The RTO informed that about 250 lorries carrying manganese ores were imposed certain amount of fine and were allowed to ply further.
