Last Updated 27 June 2011, 19:08 IST

Truck services are struggling to stay afloat in the wake of several increases to the diesel prices in the last two years.

“We have written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to immediately withdraw the recent hike,” AIMTC president G Shanmugappa said after his meeting with Road Transport Ministry officials ended inconclusively. If the government failed to roll back hike, AIMTC, which has support of 75 lakh truckers, will hold an emergency meeting in Hubli and may go on an indefinite nationwide Chakka Jam, he said and threatened the transporters will resort to hike in freight rates by at least 15-16 per cent.
